washi tape pots

I recently had a realization. I don’t love doing DIY projects. For some reason I’ve always felt pressured to do them for the blog, simply because I felt like I should. (Never the right reason!) I love seeing other people do DIY projects (hence my pinboard devoted to ideas), but it seems like they are everywhere right now , which makes me less inspired. I want to do them for a specific use or purpose, not just because. Plus, I’ve been so focused on cleaning out our home and getting rid of stuff that I have a hard time buying supplies for new projects… So, I’ve decided that I’m only going to do DIY projects occasionally when I’m inspired and if they have a specific use for our home. Cool? :)

Here’s a recent example. We got some new succulents (sedum, my new favorite!) and I wanted to do something fun and unique for the containers; I already had one terra cotta pot. I saw this idea somewhere on Pinterest…putting washi tape on terra cotta pots and I just love how it adds pattern and bright color! Plus the level of this project is my favorite : EASY! And time required? Minimal!

What do you think? If you’re looking for an easy project, I highly recommend getting some washi tape because the possibilities are endless!

I’d love to hear, what are your thoughts on DIY projects? Do you enjoy them? How often do you actually make the DIY projects you’re inspired by on other blogs?

  1. Such a cute idea! So funny, I just pinned some washi tape last night for future reference. Are those plants pretty easy to take care of? I’d like to add some green to my life at some point, but I have the total opposite of a green thumb (Seriously. I once killed an aloe vera plant. Which, by the way, is pretty much an idiot proof plant.).

Lisa- yes they are easy! I keep them outside right now and water them maybe once every 2-3 weeks max. Succulents are desert plants so they don’t need too much water! :)

  2. I feel exactly like you about DIY projects ! I love them only when they really have a purpose…And they’re always far better and more creative when we feel inspired by something we love at the beginning :)

So…your pots look very cute with this nice tape (I love the one with neon yellow dots :)

  3. I couldn’t agree more about DIYs and making them just to make them versus making them for a purpose! I thought about possibly introducing a DIY post to my blog but realized I am not really crafty and I don’t want it to feel forced.

That’s a great use of washi tape! It makes me wonder what I have in my household that could use a fun little pop of color. :)

Erika- Yes! I was feeling forced, too, which is no good! Hope you put that washi tape to good use! :)

  5. I love this! What an easy way to spruce up some plain flower pots, yet not have them end up being too busy.
