DIY // modern magnets

So I thought it would be fun to make some colorful magnets to brighten up our refrigerator. I like to keep ours fairly clean with a few photos and inspiration. This is a such an easy DIY that makes an otherwise mundane surface a little brighter! Here are the details…

Supplies:
Wooden nickels
Magnets
Craft paint suitable for wood (I love Martha Stewart’s)
Paint brushes
Hot glue gun
X-acto knife
Painter’s tape
Washi tape (optional – but it’s fun to add pattern!)

Directions:
First decide the designs you’d like for your magnets. (Or you can wing it, like I did.;)
Using painter’s tape, tape wherever you wouldn’t like paint to appear. Paint, let dry, and repeat.
To add washi tape, simply put a piece where you’d like it leaving the edges hanging off. Then, use an x-acto knife to cut away any excess. It’s also fun to layer washi tape over dried paint!
Once paint has dried, use a hot glue gun to glue magnets to the back of your wooden nickels.
And voila! You have some cute little magnets.

I just love how they turned out! Hope you’re inspired! :)

  2. What a simple idea! Totally makes me feel like it’s time to part with our random mishmash of magnets and a get out fridge looking a bit more up to date.

Sometime the simple projects are the best ones!
