character

Happy Friday! How was your week? I’ll be honest, mine started out pretty rough. I’ve been doing some serious evaluating and going through some tough times as a result. I’m trying to sort through all of my creative energy and figure out my next steps in this little journey of mine! This has felt like the majority of 2012  for me and I’m grateful that I’m starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel. I’ve been making a conscious effort to let go of the pressure I put on myself and just follow my heart and what excites me at the moment, as simple as that. I’ve got some exciting projects in the works and I’m excited to share and announce some new directions soon. My mother-in-law told me something so encouraging and I thought I’d share in case any of you ever feel the same way. She said, “You don’t have to aspire to be something huge. Just think of what brings you joy and how you can serve others.” Isn’t that beautiful? I think as creatives we often make things overly complicated. If you’re anything like me you have BIG dreams and constantly think about every possible scenario and want to do it all…but it’s ultimately the most important to focus on the few things that bring us joy, and even more, serve others so that we can positively impact the world. I’m feeling encouraged and inspired again as I take small steps in the right directions for me. It’s scary but I’m ready.

Anyway, how adorable is that sweet little house above? The photo is by Johny Cook and I’m so inspired by homes with character and a story. Lately, I find myself drawn to the most neutral color palettes of black, white, and wood. I thought I’d share a few spaces that make my heart go pitter-patter…

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Thanks so much for reading; it’s weeks like this that I want to just reach out and give you all a big hug!

xoxo

P.S. Come back on Monday for a holiday giveaway you won’t to want to miss!!

a walk through chicago

Chicago inspires me. It’s always been the “big city” to me growing up and a place filled with memories. I still get butterflies when I visit and I always leave feeling full of life.

The architecture is beautiful and the pretty blue skies on that day didn’t hurt either. Here are a few more photos I snapped while walking around Wicker Park and Bucktown after Renegade Craft Fair.

The last photo is peering into Grassfed, a restaurant I definitely want to try next time I’m there. I’m loving the decor!

Do you have a city nearby that inspires you?

P.S. My ballet flats are from J.Crew.

dream home / Sweden

This little gem in the Swedish countryside has stolen my heart. What a dream! The home, which includes a barn, guest house, and pasture, was built in 1950 and the current owners have redone most of it over time, doing most of the work themselves. I love the abundance of white; it creates such a calming environment. Plus, I’d imagine those cute grazing sheep would be pretty calming, too, right? ;)

How was your weekend? Our Blogs & Books event was so much fun to put together! I can’t wait to show you pictures. (A couple sneak peeks are on my Instagram!)

Have a wonderful Monday.

madrid home

I’m feeling fancy. Isn’t this home in Madrid is amazing? I love all the bright colors, texture, and modern style. I’m especially obsessed with the bedroom : that bright pattern and the genius idea of mixing two different polka dots!

How was your weekend? We had a great one and I went a little Instagram crazy. :) I’ll be sharing some photos from our hiking day trip soon!

Have a great Monday!

outdoor living

Summer is my favorite season in the Midwest because I can spend the most time outdoors. I’ve been so inspired by outdoor living spaces lately. It’s a dream of ours to live in a warm climate (ahem, California) where we can have our own outdoor living space year-round. I’m really digging the bohemian vibe of these spaces!

P.S. More inspiration on my Pinterest board!

houseboat, yard sale, + happy weekend

I’m in love with this Seattle houseboat…it’s so picturesque! Lately I can’t get enough time outdoors and this looks like the perfect life balance, don’t you think? :)

In other news, we’re having a yard sale this weekend! Remember how I want to go minimalist? The time is now! If you’re in the Milwaukee area, feel free to email me for details! It will be all day tomorrow and it will be a fun day in the sunshine! I asked Nick if we could make pitchers of mojitos for the sale and he replied, “It’s a yard sale, not a party.” Ha! I get a little too excited for these things…

Have a happy weekend friends! On Monday I’m headed to Chicago for a really fun opportunity that will bring some great changes to the blog – can’t wait to share more soon!

xoxo
