A new favorite quote…who knows what the future holds, but it’s encouraging to think that if we’re following the heart, we can be confident that everything will fall into place and the dots will connect in the end.

Happy Thursday!

Happy Thursday! This week has totally gotten away from me so we’re just going to have to skip Granola Files, because sometimes life happens. Today’s quote is a good topic for if you’re feeling overwhelmed like I am.

If you’re ever feeling tired, unsure, and wondering how you even got to this place (that’s definitely been me lately)…start to think about the things that excite you. Where did it all begin? What brought you to this place? I love this quote, ”whenever there is enthusiasm, there is a creative empowerment that goes far beyond what a mere person is capable of.” (Eckhart Tolle) I think the lesson is that whatever excites us is what we need to pursue in living creatively. That excitement and enthusiasm will not only carry us through, it’s where creative magic happens, the things, like Tolle said, that are far beyond what we think we’re even capable of. That’s where focus, vision, energy, and clarity live. And I don’t know about you, but I would love some of that!

So far my conclusion is this: whatever it is that we’re intensely interested in, we should follow that. And never look back!

Sometimes things happen that really put life in perspective quickly. Although I don’t live on the East Coast and I’ve never experienced a hurricane, watching the news has left me feeling so very grateful. I can’t imagine being in a city as big as New York and having it essentially shut down or even seeing downtown Manhattan in the dark. Sandy certainly left her mark. We even had record waves on the lakefront here in Milwaukee as a result.

It’s moments like these that leave me with the kind of gratitude and wonder that I need to have more often. I love how Chesterton said, “thanks are the highest form of thought.” It’s easy to get carried away with daily stressors and the constant striving, but it’s far more important to pause and remember the world is a very small place. We’re all connected and it’s the relationships and the ways we support each other that truly matter.

So wherever you are, let’s practice gratitude and thanks, whatever our circumstances. It will most certainly lead to happiness and wonder. If you’re on the East Coast, I hope you’re safe and taking comfort with loved ones.

This quote is probably one of my all time favorites. I remember first discovering it in years ago and immediately writing it down, hanging it up, not wanting to forget its brilliance. I find this especially useful when it comes to design. Whether it’s a logo or interior, simplicity always wins in my book. I’ve found this has become more and more true as my design taste evolves over time, I really believe less is more. I would much rather have less items of value than many useless ones, and I’ve found that I love creating a home where everything has its place, purpose, use or value. The best possessions are those with significance and a story.

So for those times when we find ourselves wanting something we don’t need (which for me is more often than I’d like to admit- I’m a blogger after all!), let’s try to remember what Da Vinci so wisely stated, that “simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” Chances are we don’t need that extra gadget or gizmo that we’ll forget about anyway. Then here is my ultimate reality check: if we have a roof on over our heads and food on the table, our home is perfect just as it is. :)

P.S. Come back tomorrow for a Dream Job interview you won’t want to miss! :)

Isn’t this design beautiful by Molly? I guess you could say C.S. Lewis inspires. ;)

It’s time to let go…of old habits, negative thoughts, and anything that keeps us from accomplishing our goals and moving forward. I tend to get trapped in “what if” thoughts…pondering what could have been if I had done this or that…but ultimately those kind of thoughts only leaves me stuck in the past. And there’s so much freedom and possibility of letting go and being confident in our decisions. That’s where I want to live!

Do you ever feel stuck in the past? Here’s to letting go and moving forward! Because there’s far better things ahead. :)
