collaboration with abbey moore photography

Happy Monday! Today is the day I’m sharing photos of a recent collaboration with Abbey Moore Photography! I’m so excited to share these with you and I’ve got a few butterflies in my stomach because they are more serious and personal than anything I’ve done before. We were inspired by raw and moody black and white portraiture. So often the focus around the blogosphere is on fashion and what we’re wearing but I wanted to do something completely different, something that’s a little vulnerable and focuses less on the clothing and more the subject and emotion. I hope you enjoy these and I’d love to hear what you think! A huge thanks to Abbey Moore for taking these photos! If it isn’t already clear, she’s insanely talented. She has such an infectious personality that is so fun to be around. Abbey is based out of Michigan and primarily shoots weddings. Be sure to check out her website and blog as well as follow her on Twitter and Facebook. Well, here goes…!

style post / lunch date

With some encouragement from friends, I wore my first maxi dress! I’ve always wanted to wear a long dress but never felt like I could pull it off because I’m petite. But I think paired with the right shoes (wedges!), it totally works. This dress was a great find at our local thrift store and I think this look is perfect for a casual chic lunch date.

I also love it when I randomly find a cute pair of shoes at Target for $10. Now that’s a happy ending.

Have you worn maxi dresses this summer?

Get the look:

Similar items: turquoise maxi dress, fun necklace, floral clutch, yellow wedges (or I love this brown leather pair!).

style post // beach style

Photobucket

My friend Erin and I had fun taking photos on Lake Michigan. Somehow you miraculously can’t tell that these were shot on a 95 degree day. It was H-O-T. Perfect for the beach, I’d say!

I love mixing stripes with polka dots. It’s unexpected and playful.

It’s a little embarrassing to admit, but pretty much my entire outfit is from J.Crew. You can get the look with these ideas…

striped cotton drawstring dress, coral Nina Ricci bikini, madewell polka dot tote, headscarf, peace bracelet

Do you live near a beach? I don’t know what I’d do without one! I long for the ocean, but Lake Michigan isn’t so bad. ; )

style post // vintage scarves

Photos by Erin Colleen Photography

Vintage silk scarves are one of my favorite things. My favorite way to wear them is as a head scarf. With short hair, it’s an easy way to mix things up and add a feminine touch and I’ve been wearing one almost every day. Simply tie a knot in on the top center of your head, loosen it, and tuck each loose end in the scarf wrapped around your head. Voila! An easy way to add some fun.

Then I also recently tried a simple neck tie scarf. I think it can be such a classy look, and here I went for more boho style with my romper from Urban Outfitters. First I doubled the scarf and after putting it around my neck, I used the loop to take one end and tie a knot in the center of my chest, at about where I would place a necklace.

I got the red and blue scarf above from El Vintage on etsy. The shop owner, Emily is from Milwaukee but now lives in L.A. and they have a great selection!

If you’d like to try out this look, here are a few suggestions! Have fun with it. xoxo

style post /// iron horse hotel

A lovely green and black ensemble for winter. I’m obsessed with my new boots and I spent a month wearing them everywhere. We took these photos at the gorgeous Iron Horse Hotel in Milwaukee. I loved everything about that place.

Outfit credits: sweater dress from a boutique in Boston, green pants from Gap, Dolce Vita boots, A Merry Mishap earrings, Warby Parker glasses.

style post // cozy winter

Why not have fun and try to look cute when you live somewhere freezing? I might as well make the most of it!

I’m in love with my super soft chunky cowl from Knot Original (cute name, right?). Also, those triangle earrings that are slightly hidden are from A Merry Mishap. (I know, I really should be a walking ad for that shop.)

How do you stay warm during winter?
