Emily Liebl of EL Vintage Dream Job Interview | Inspired to Share

Today we have a new Dream Job interview (just in time for the holidays!). The interview is with the wonderful Emily Liebl, the woman behind EL Vintage. Once a Midwesterner (she’s originally from Milwaukee, where I live!), she now lives in Los Angeles. Emily is a woman with a big heart, an eye for vintage. and a true passion for what she does. Her personality and energy are infectious and it’s clear that she loves what she does! A big thanks to Emily for taking the time and I hope you enjoy this glimpse into her business, style, and space! xo

renegade chicago 2012

I wanted to share some photos from Renegade Craft Fair last weekend in Chicago. We continued our tradition from last year where the guys watch football at their favorite spot while the ladies get to have fun at the craft fair! It’s basically a win-win. ;)

We started the day with brunch with good friends. It was our first time at Feast Chicago, which I’d highly recommend (my veggie burger was delicious!). Oh, and here I am with blonde hair!

Then off to the craft fair! The Vintage Bazaar was also going on nearby, which was fun, too! Here are some of my favorite highlights, which include pretty displays, sweet trailers, bikes, and the cutest dogs…

I wish I could remember each of the booths where I took photos but you can check out the full list of artists here. I do know that the “be awesome today” embroidery is by Ruggles Made. And how cute is that dog in the trailer?! :)

Have you ever been to a Renegade Craft Fair? It all started in Chicago but they’re now in Austin, Brooklyn, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and even London!

Until next year! Tomorrow I’ll be sharing a few more photos of Chicago…

signage

As I’m working on my rebranding, I’ve been studying typography like crazy. While I’ve been looking at a lot of typefaces and branding, I always love looking to the past for inspiration. Old signage is great inspiration for type, color, and design. Most of these vintage signs were probably created before graphic design became such a big industry and I just love the simplicity. These photographs by Martin Garfinkel capture some great vintage signs around the U.S.

I’m also super excited for a book and documentary coming out called Sign Painters, created by Milwaukee-based artist Faythe Levine and Chicago director Sam Macon. The book comes out in October and the documentary will follow in 2013.

I’ll be sharing more about my rebranding soon to give you a sneak peek!

mod pieces lookbook

Here is a clip of a recent collaboration I did with Lia of Mod Pieces, an amazing shop with one-of-a-kind restyled vintage lighting. Lia created the first Mod Pieces lookbook for her lighting collection and asked contributors to design a room around each lamp! Above is what I came up with for the charming Lola lamp (which is for sale here, if you’re interested).

Thank you Lia! I’m so honored to contribute to your beautiful collection and be among such good company (Meg Biram, Hilary Walker, and Tim Lam). Be sure to check out the Mod Pieces lookbook! xo

P.S. Lia is a rockstar and also just created Mod Shops, a downloadable PDF with links to over 1,000 design resources! Check it out!

thrifted halloween decor

I don’t typically gravitate towards over-the-top Halloween decor, and I love the idea of decorating for Halloween with customized thrifted finds. This look is simple, subtle, festive, and best of all – resourceful! Rachel’s space is the perfect example. One great example is that she found an owl figurine at a thrift store and spray-painted it black! Add a black cake stand, mini pumpkins, hints of orange and mustard yellow, and you have some pretty Halloween decor…

Are you dressing up for Halloween this weekend? Hubs really doesn’t like dressing up and I just haven’t had time to put into a costume. So instead, we’ve got a lineup of DIY projects for the weekend! I’m pretty pumped and hope to share with you soon.

Have a spooky Halloween weekend! I plan to watch either Hocus Pocus or Practical Magic (did you see the Living In on Design*Sponge?) and have some sweets. : )

Thanks for all your sweet comments this week! Until Monday…xoxo
